Of the Western US
Through the Lens of Walter Braun
It occurred to me that our Leisure World® colleagues who live east of the Mississippi and even those in our own back yard in the San Francisco bay area may not be aware of the astounding beauty of our national parks here in the west. My wife and I have spent the last few years visiting some of the gems of the west. The people out here are welcoming and informative. The parks are beyond words. They are beautiful; they are vast with a capital V and they are so diverse as to defy description. The photos I submitted provide just a sampling of the beauty that these parks offer and they certainly don’t do them justice. California offers her amazing stands of Redwoods along the Pacific coast and Sequoia groves in the Sierras. Arizona holds a special spot in the heart of all Americans with the South Rim of the Grand Canyon and Zion National Parks and further east, Canyon de Chelly, Monument Valley and the slot canyons are located on Pueblo lands. Further to the east is Utah with her Canyon Lands and Arches National Parks. Each is magnificent in its own way. So either drive or take a bus tour of these wonders in the west and bring your camera, October through May are the best times.
